Substances Support Scotland (SSS) secures new Regional Contract

Substances Support Scotland (SSS) is pleased to announce that it has been awarded the contract to deliver psychosocial support services across Midlothian and East Lothian.

This new contract marks an important step in strengthening support for people, families and communities affected by alcohol and drug use across both local authority areas.

Drawing on its experience in specialist substance support, SSS will work closely with local partners to deliver accessible, person-centred services that respond to local need and help people move forward in safer, healthier and more hopeful ways.

The award reflects a shared commitment to improving outcomes through partnership — combining local knowledge, established relationships and specialist expertise to build strong, responsive support across both areas.

A Commitment to Partnership and Community

John Hamilton, Chair of Substances Support Scotland, said:

“We are delighted to have been awarded this contract and to have the opportunity to support people and communities across Midlothian and East Lothian.
This is a significant moment for our organisation and one that reflects the hard work, commitment and expertise of our staff, trustees and partners.
We know that no single organisation can meet the full range of needs people experience. That is why partnership matters so much.
We are looking forward to working alongside local services, communities and people with lived and living experience to help ensure support is accessible, joined up and effective.”

Delivering Trauma-Informed, Person-Centred Support

Marie Crombie, Chief Executive Officer of Substances Support Scotland, said:

“We are incredibly pleased to have secured this contract and are excited to begin this next chapter in Midlothian and East Lothian.
Our focus will be on delivering high-quality, trauma-informed and person-centred psychosocial support that meets people where they are and helps them build stability, confidence and hope.
This is also an opportunity to build new relationships and strengthen existing ones.
By working collaboratively with partners across both areas, and by combining our expertise, insight and commitment, we believe we can deliver even stronger services for local communities.”

What Happens Next

SSS will now work closely with commissioners and local partners on mobilisation and transition arrangements ahead of service commencement.

This will include ensuring continuity of support, strengthening referral pathways, and embedding a model that is responsive, accessible and aligned with local priorities.

Looking Ahead

This contract represents more than service delivery — it is an opportunity to work alongside communities to build a system of support that is compassionate, connected and effective.

Substances Support Scotland remains committed to supporting people to move forward in safer, healthier and more hopeful ways.
